Lolz, this is two years old, yet here I am, commenting on it. XD Whatever. I find this useful and therefore, I fave it. I was searching for a good tooling tutorial and this is especially helpful, what with me being hopeless when I tool. XD Gonna try it again and hopefully succeed. :)

question-when you say "darkest areas" do you mean all of the shadows, or just the darker shadows?

I'm not sure what you're asking but I'll try to answer. When I say darkest points and lightest points, I mean on the body. So yeah I guess, where there would be the deepest shadows on the body and the lightest or highest points on the body. The shading is to really help create an in depth image. To give it a 3D-ish look.
Also when I say to emphasize, I mean to over dramatize with your shading. It will make your image pop better. Where as other areas on her body can be soft and light because it's most of the time a larger portion of the body.

The middle shade is really for when there isn't a lot of dark needed such as the the thighs and arms. Also as a sort of gradient help for smudging.
