Here's part 2 of the Start to Finish Doll.

Skin....... the dreaded part of your doll. This really takes time to understand and learn how the human body curves and shapes. It's a pain. but it makes your doll that much more special.

Lolz, this is two years old, yet here I am, commenting on it. XD Whatever. I find this useful and therefore, I fave it. I was searching for a good tooling tutorial and this is especially helpful, what with me being hopeless when I tool. XD Gonna try it again and hopefully succeed. :)

question-when you say "darkest areas" do you mean all of the shadows, or just the darker shadows?

I'm not sure what you're asking but I'll try to answer. When I say darkest points and lightest points, I mean on the body. So yeah I guess, where there would be the deepest shadows on the body and the lightest or highest points on the body. The shading is to really help create an in depth image. To give it a 3D-ish look.
Also when I say to emphasize, I mean to over dramatize with your shading. It will make your image pop better. Where as other areas on her body can be soft and light because it's most of the time a larger portion of the body.

I hope this helps, and you can always come to me with more questions. :D

The middle shade is really for when there isn't a lot of dark needed such as the the thighs and arms. Also as a sort of gradient help for smudging.

Haha... Yeah it can be a pain, I usually don't reshade an entire base unless my doll is either naked or for a tutorial. XD
When I make a doll, I always make the outfit first, and then only shade the parts of skin showing.
But for this tutorial, I need to show everything.
So that no matter what part of skin on someone's doll is showing they can know generally how to shade it. :D

Ah, well practice makes perfect. It's funny, I look back on some of my older dolls and think ewww..... I shaded that totally wrong. XD I love getting better. Makes art that much more fun.

Ah snap, I was bugging Ody to do this :P People are always "How do you tool bases?"
Roughly how I do it except i use dark colors and adjust opacity rather than dodge and burn :3

LOL, well there are many ways of going about it, but I wanted to show people how I shade my dolls.

I'm sure Ody will probably still make one. Sure she has her own way of going about it.

I really made these for simple readers who don't like to read long segments on how to do something. It's easy and simple to read. That was always a pet peve of mine when reading others' tuts.

But I would still very much like to see Ody's style. :D
